Sort out the niggly jobs that have been on your list
No matter how organized you are, there are always those jobs on your list that need doing but you don’t make time for. It might be a loose drawer handle, a light bulb that no longer works, or a floorboard that creaks on your stairs. No matter what it is, make a list of all those little things that need doing and plan a day to just work through and get it fixed. You could enlist a friend to help, to make it a bit more fun, or just get your power drill, crack on and get it done, you’ll feel so much better when they’re all completed!
Give your home decor a refresh
Over time your home decor can become a bit tired. Paint can wear or become discolored with fingerprints and due to the light through the window and floors can become scrappy. Before the summer comes around, spend some time giving your paint a new coat - you’d be surprised at just how much of a difference it will make, as well as deep-cleaning your carpets and giving your house a good scrub. You could polish your floorboards, re-paint your ceilings and window frames and more. It will make your home feel lovely and fresh for when the summer months come around.
Sort your outside space
The outside space in your home is one of the most important areas for the summer as this is where you will hopefully be spending most of your time. There are a myriad of things you can do here, including repainting all your fences so they are fresh, you could also give your patio a jet wash so the paving comes up as good as new. It’s a good idea to invest in some outdoor, solar lights that you can hang up around the space, or put into the ground as this will elongate your warm summer evenings longer, and also consider building a dedicated BBQ space where you can cook al fresco. You could add in some decking, consider a patio heater and think about a seating area for you and your family to utilize.
Ensure your air con is working
There’s nothing worse than a hot day suddenly hitting, going to turn on your air conditioning and it doesn’t work. To stop this being an issue, take a look at your air con unit well ahead of time, getting someone out to fix it if it’s not working. This means you will be prepared for when the weather hits and if something is wrong, you don’t need to worry about there being a long wait for someone to fix it as it isn’t peak time.
Check your doors and windows
Your doors and windows can let a lot of heat out and cold air in, so you want to check they’re fully sealed ahead of the hot weather. This will keep your air conditioning in, the hot air out and be better for your bank balance as well as the comfort of your home. The earlier you get it sorted, the better.
