Bright Side Wellness Summer Series: A Calm-for-Creatives Lineup at The Modern Residences
Recap from the Etch Design Group team
Sesco & Urbanspace Present: Bright Side Series @ The Modern
Some of the most interesting things happening in Austin design right now are not in showrooms. They are in the buildings themselves. This summer, Sesco and Urbanspace are teaming up for the Bright Side Wellness Summer Series, three after-work sessions built around one idea we care a lot about: how the spaces and habits around creative people help them feel steady. We pay attention when a development brand and a lighting partner invest in the people inside their buildings, because that mindset is the same one that makes a home feel good to live in.
A quick word on the series
The full series runs June through August at The Modern Residences and carries the theme "Cultivating Calm for Creatives," spanning yoga and sound bath, hormone health, and aqua aerobics. Each session starts at 4:30 PM, and entry is handled through the concierge. Here is what is on the calendar, plus the design takeaway we are carrying out of each one.
June 30 · Sound for Stress
The series opens with guided breathing and reflection exercises paired with a sound bath, all designed to improve focus and emotional balance in the office. It is a gentle, grounding way to start, and a reminder that calm is something you can build into a daily routine.
When: June 30, 4:30 PM
Where: The Modern Residences, 610 Davis Street
Good to know: BYOM, bring your own mat if you have one. See the concierge for entry.
Designer tip
A sound bath works because the room disappears for a while. You can borrow that at home with a small corner set aside for quiet: a soft rug, a low light on a dimmer, and nothing on the walls that asks for your attention. The point is not a dedicated meditation room. It is one honest, uncluttered spot your eyes can rest on.
July 23 · Hormones By Design
The midsummer session moves into hormone health, with guidance on balance at every stage of life. The talk covers the signs and symptoms of perimenopause, menopause, and thyroid imbalance, and how BHRT can help people feel like themselves again. It is a candid, informative subject that affects a lot of the creative professionals this series is built for.
When: July 23, 4:30 PM
Where: The Modern Residences, 610 Davis Street
Good to know: Educational session on hormonal health. See the concierge for entry.
Why we are going
Feeling like yourself again has a spatial side too. Rest is easier in a bedroom that is cool, dark, and free of clutter and screens. When clients tell us they want their home to feel like a retreat, this is the quiet half of that wish: rooms that help the body settle, not just rooms that photograph well.
August 27 · Splash Society
The series closes by the pool with Splash Society, a high-energy, rhythm-driven take on modern aqua aerobics. It blends cardio, strength, and Pilates-inspired sculpting into a nonstop flow, taught by industry leader Terah Kelley. It is a fitting finale: a reminder that an amenity space is only as good as the energy people bring to it.
When: August 27, 4:30 PM
Where: The Modern Residences, 610 Davis Street (poolside)
Good to know: Taught by Terah Kelley. See the concierge for entry.
Designer tip
A pool deck that invites a crowd comes down to a few choices: shade you can actually sit under, durable furniture that handles water and sun, and surfaces that stay cool underfoot. The same logic carries to a backyard at home. Plan the deck around how people gather, and the space starts earning its keep.
The thread that ties it together
Sound, rest, and movement are three different doors into the same room: feeling well in the place you spend your days. That is the part of design we find most worth talking about. A home is not finished when it looks right. It is finished when it helps you breathe a little easier, sleep a little better, and gather the people you love. Series like this one are a good reminder that the best spaces are built around how people actually want to feel.
